Colman Ndetembea is the co-founder of Kyaro Assistive Tech, an initiative that started as project in 2018 while he was still a mechatronic engineering student and later started manufacturing in 2021. He has, since then, led the project to become an organization that has designed, manufactured, and distributed over 2700 appropriate assistive devices across Tanzania and neighbouring countries. Colman has a profound commitment to service and firmly believes that humanity can only advance truly when everyone has access to a life of opportunity, joy, and peace. He combines his love for engineering, connections, and the Hip Hop culture in all he does, and he is a calm spirit with boundless energy., It is with this personality and these beliefs that he is continuously embarking on a journey to serve and industrialize Africa in a quest to ensure quality of life is improved through localized solutions.
Kyaro Assistive Tech is a Tanzanian social enterprise designing, manufacturing, and delivering locally appropriate assistive devices for people with disabilities across East Africa.
Recognising that many imported assistive products are not suited to Africa’s needs, environments, budgets, or infrastructure, Kyaro works directly with users to develop affordable, context-appropriate solutions. Its product range includes active wheelchair tricycle attachments, tilting tables, and standing frames.
Kyaro follows a comprehensive, user-centred process covering assessment, prescription, product preparation, fitting, user training and follow-up, helping ensure that assistive devices are safe, appropriate, and effective.
